Giga Media Converter
The REDIS Giga Media Converter is a Gigabit media converter that bridges standard copper Ethernet (1000Base-T, RJ-45) and step-index plastic optical fiber (SI-POF, 650 nm HS-BASE-P). It transmits a full 1000 Mbps signal over SI-POF up to 40 meters with plug-and-play installation.
Overview
Gigabit POF-to-Ethernet media converters that carry 1000 Mbps over SI-POF up to 40 meters. Built and customized in Taiwan by REDIS Intelligent.
Features
- Fully complies with IEEE 802.3ab and IEEE 802.3 HS-BASE-P (650 nm), 1000Base-T and 1000Base-X.
- One 1000Base-T RJ-45 port and one 1000 HS-BASE-P 650 nm POF transceiver.

Frequently asked questions
How far can the REDIS Giga Media Converter transmit over POF?
It transmits a full 1000 Mbps signal up to 40 meters over SI-POF. The GAMC DIY kit variant reaches up to 20 meters.
Do I need special tools to install it?
No. The converter is plug-and-play, and the GAMC DIY kit includes a POF cable cutter so you can terminate SI-POF cable yourself without specialist equipment.
What is SI-POF and why use it over copper or glass fiber?
SI-POF is step-index plastic optical fiber. It is immune to electromagnetic interference like glass fiber, but far more flexible, easier to terminate and lower cost to deploy than glass, while avoiding copper's susceptibility to lightning and motor interference.
